What are Pharaoh Ants?

Pharaoh ants are a common species of ant that can be found throughout North America. They have a dark brown or black body with a yellowish-red abdomen. Like other types of household ants, the length of a carpenter’s ant worker is 2 mm, and that of a queen is 4 mm.

Pharaoh ant’s colonies are small, containing between 50-200 workers. Pharaoh’s ant colonies contain queens, males, laborers, eggs, larvae, and pupae. Pharaoh ant colonies can grow very quickly—in as little as 5 weeks from egg to adult. The queen usually lives up to 3 years. During that time she will lay up to 150 eggs per day on average.

Pharaoh ants doesn’t occupy one specific area for very long. They move from place to place, usually within walls or floors or under floors. They feed on sugar, grease, oils, dead insects, etc. This means that they’re likely to be found near your kitchen or pantry areas. In addition to eating food, these ants will feed on just about anything else they can find. Unlike most other species of ant (including fire ants), they don’t bite. However, their sting is still painful if you happen to get one on your skin!

If you see these small insects in your home, you should contact a professional Pharaoh Ant control right away to prevent them from spreading to other areas of your house.

Habitat & Behavior of Pharaoh ant

Pharaoh ants Nests are often located near sources of food, such as kitchens or pantries. The nest itself is made up of small worker ants, winged male and female reproductive, brood (eggs, larvae and pupae), discarded exoskeletons (which can look like black pepper) and other debris.

Pharaoh ant nests can be found in wall voids, under floors, behind baseboards and inside furniture. They are very secretive and elusive pests that go to great lengths to avoid detection by humans. When they do encounter people they will attempt to run away rather than fight back which makes them even more difficult to control!

Pharaoh ants can bite, but they are not known to transmit disease. However, they do have a painful sting that is similar to a bee sting. They also produce an unpleasant odor which may be detected when their nests are disturbed.

Pharaoh ants prefer warm temperatures (around 25 degrees Celsius) and high humidity levels (60-80%). This means they are most active during spring, summer and fall months when air conditioning is not on. In winter months pharaoh ants become less active but still remain indoors where it is warmer.

Unlike other ant species, which form colonies with a single queen, pharaoh ants are made up of multiple queens. This means that if you kill one queen, it won’t slow down colony growth—there will be another to take her place. And because there are multiple queens laying eggs at once, they can quickly build their population back up to full strength. That’s why it’s so important to call a professional exterminator for Pharaoh ant removal when you see them—they can get rid of all of them at once!
